Music at CBC

Whether you sing, play an instrument, work with computers skillfully or operate sound efficiently, we want to help you get involved in serving the Local Church! The over-arching mission of Calvary Baptist church is “to serve and go that our unbelieving neighbors become committed followers of Jesus Christ”. We do that through connecting, growing, serving and going. Within the arenas of music and media, we also connect, grow, serve and go. We connect with one another during rehearsals, meetings, and getting to know one another during the week. We grow in our area of ministry by seeing people use their musical and technical gifts to the glory of God, and by continually learning more about their craft and the abilities with which God has blessed them. We serve the local church by the volunteering of time during rehearsals and services. We go by actually carrying out our skillsets, collaborating with others, and inviting others to church. With the music we sing and play, it is our desire to point people to Jesus Christ, worshiping Him with all of our being. We emphasize multi-generational worship as preschoolers through adults help lead worship, incorporating hymns of the faith with today’s modern praise music. Please contact us if you’d like to serve.

Opportunities to Serve

CHOOSE YOUR AREA OF INTEREST:

If computers, recording and broadcasting interest you, or your skillset lies within this area, there may be a place for you to serve.  Whether it’s using ProPresenter or adjusting audio levels for social media platforms, volunteers use their technical skills to help proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ through technology and social media.  A service member on this team should possess a Godly attitude toward ministry with a willingness to learn and serve in a fast-paced environment.  For more details, contact Larry Potts here or call the church office.

If equalizing sound, learning about sound frequencies, and adjusting sound levels lie within your area of expertise, there may be a place for you to serve.   Whether it’s balancing sound between singers and instrumentalists, adjusting faders, or setting up microphones and speakers, volunteers use their ability to listen and mix sound so others may hear the Gospel message.  A service member on this team should possess a Godly attitude toward ministry with a willingness to learn and serve in a fast-paced environment.  For more details, contact Ken Harper here or contact the church office.

If you are skilled at playing an instrument (strings, percussion, woodwinds, brass, keyboard, guitar), there may be a place for you to use your gifts to serve.  To play in the band, one should be currently enrolled in instrumental instruction and/or be able to play at a basic proficiency level.  A basic proficiency level includes the ability to play music (either by ear or via sheet music/chord charts) at a high-school level, in tune and in rhythm.  The Band rehearses Sunday mornings at 9:15.  For more details, contact Aimee Rosser at aimee@cbclynchburg.com.

If you enjoy singing, you should consider joining choir. It is a unique experience joining others in song as they raise their voices in worship to God.  The choir leads the congregation in praise and worship during each week’s corporate worship service, and rehearses on Wednesdays at 6:30. Auditions are not required to be a part of the choir, and you do not have to be able to read music to be a part of the choir. However, you should be able to sing on pitch.  Childcare is also provided during rehearsals if you have children. Each year, the choir also presents a Christmas and Easter program. Malachi: This auditioned group comprises of female singers, ages 19+.  This ensemble sings periodically as a part of congregational worship, in addition to traveling to various churches within the surrounding area.  For more information or questions about this ensemble, contact Aimee Rosser here.

Praise Team: This auditioned group comprises of either male or female singers, ages 19+.  This ensemble assists the choir in leading congregational worship.  For more information or questions about this ensemble, contact Aimee at aimee@cbclynchburg.com.

If your child or teenager enjoys singing, they should consider joining other students their same age as they worship the Lord together through music.  There are opportunities for your young person to serve in a variety of age-appropriate groups:

  • Cherubs: this is our pre-K through 5-year-old choir.  This group rehearses on Sundays at 10:30 am and periodically presents special music during congregational worship.  For more details, contact Anita Wilson here or contact the church office.
  • Praisers: this is our 1st-5th grade choir.  This group rehearses on Sundays at 9:40 am and periodically presents special music during congregational worship.  For more details on how your young person may get involved, contact Aimee Rosser here or contact the church office.
  • Exultation: this is our 6th-12th grade choir. This group rehearses on Sundays at 4:00 pm and periodically presents special music during congregational worship.  For more information on how your teenager may get involved, contact Aimee Rosser here or contact the church office.

Chimes Choir: This instrumental group consists of students ages 3 through Kindergarten.  This ensemble presents an annual Children’s Christmas Program in addition to a Spring Concert, featuring hymns of faith and modern praise-and-worship selections.  For more information or questions about this ensemble, contact Susan Coalson here.

Elementary Bell Choir: This instrumental group consists of students grades 1st – 5th.  This ensemble presents an annual Children’s Christmas Program in addition to a Spring Concert, featuring hymns of faith and modern praise-and-worship selections.  For more information or questions about this ensemble, contact Susan Coalson here.

Youth Bell Choir This instrumental group consists of students grades 6th – 12th.  This ensemble presents an annual Children’s Christmas Program in addition to a Spring Concert, featuring hymns of faith and modern praise-and-worship selections.  For more information or questions about this ensemble, contact Susan Coalson here.

Depending on the progress of the choirs, they also perform periodically during the Sunday morning services throughout the year.
